David B. Custer
My name is David B. Custer, and I'm a math enthusiast, teacher educator, and lover of instructional technology. I completed my Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) in Instructional Technology at Kennesaw State University and am teaching students mathematics at Decatur High School in Decatur, Georgia. I'm a highly enthusiastic and energetic teacher that fully believes students must be active participants in their own learning. I believe in making my classroom a personalized, student-centered community that fosters the development of minds, gifts, and talents as students learn to become productive members of a global society. Over my 20 years of teaching, I've taught every math class that the state of Georgia offers, become a department chair, instructional team leader, coach, and gifted content specialist. Currently leading the Decatur High School mathematics department, I've pushed for team collaboration, refined my belief in non-traditional standards-based practices, and sought methods and practices that engage students with technology learning.
The purpose of this portfolio is for me to demonstrate mastery of the PSC Instructional Technology standards and the ISTE NETS-C standards. Kennesaw State University has helped me to reflect on my own practice and allowed me to hone my administrative skills as a teacher educator. Be sure to visit the "standards" tab of this site which provides a series of artifacts and reflections detailing the work I have completed during my program. In addition, the "capstone" tab showcases my technology-related research study and results. Documentation of my growth as a technology coach and personal reflections on my learning experiences with each course can be found in my blog. Thank you for visiting!
